Who can attend a Notre Dame pilgrimage?
Any Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College or Holy Cross College undergraduate or graduate student may apply to attend a Notre Dame pilgrimage. Occasionally, certain pilgrimages are only available to undergraduate students, which would be listed within the website of each particular pilgrimage page.
What if I am an international student?
International students are welcome to participate on any Notre Dame pilgrimage. Depending on the location of travel, international students may require a visa or additional paperwork in order to visit a different international destination. It is the responsibility of the student to secure all necessary paperwork in order to travel internationally with the pilgrimage group.
What if I am graduating?
Only currently enrolled students may participate on a pilgrimage. In the case for pilgrimages in May (after graduation), seniors or graduate students who graduate that May are still eligible to participate.
How does pilgrimage preference work?
In the application process, you are asked to provide a preference for your pilgrimage destination. You will be considered for your first choice preference first. In the chance that you are not accepted into your first choice location, your application will also be considered for additional preferences, pending available space.
How are students chosen?
Students are chosen based on the written application they submit. Sometimes certain pilgrimages will have an additional interview process. Typically, we have a high demand on these opportunities, so not every interested student will be able to participate.
If I have already gone on a Campus Ministry pilgrimage, can I apply again for another trip?
Yes! All eligible students are always welcome to apply for another trip. In certain circumstances, preference may be given to students who have not had the chance to travel on a Notre Dame pilgrimage before.
What is included in the pilgrimage fee?
Typically, the pilgrimage fee includes transportation, lodging, necessary supplies, event tickets, administrative fees and some meals. Each pilgrimage is different so check the pilgrimage Web page for each pilgrimage to know exactly what is included in the pilgrimage fee.
Costs associated with passport fees and required health insurance are always the responsibility of the student.
How does financial support work?
Financial support is offered for all of our pilgrimages, and we encourage students to not let finances inhibit your ability to apply for or participate in a pilgrimage. Financial support is available to accepted students and is determined on a case-by-case basis. Finances are not considered during the application process.
How do payments work?
Upon acceptance, students will be given explicit instructions on a payment schedule. A deposit is due by the deadline given to confirm your attendance and reserve your spot on the pilgrimage. If the deposit is not paid by the deadline, the spot could be given to the next student on the waitlist. Payments can be made by cash or check (made payable to “Office of Campus Ministry”) at the Campus Ministry office in Coleman-Morse, room 114. If needed, payment plans can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
What is the refund policy?
If you are accepted on a pilgrimage and make payments, $100 of your payment is non-refundable if you cancel at any time. As the date of departure grows closer, the non-refundable amount of your payment will increase. Generally speaking, if you cancel within 30 days, the price of the airline ticket will be non-refundable (varies with each pilgrimage). Also, if you cancel within 14 days of departure, the entire fee is non-refundable. More specifics on particular dates and the rates of non-refundable fees will be distributed when acceptance to a pilgrimage is issued.
What is the travel registry process?
Any students on an international pilgrimage will be required to register their travel with Notre Dame International. Instructions for this Travel Registry process will be given during pilgrimage preparation. It is the responsibility of the student to complete all Travel Registry requirements in order to participate on the pilgrimage. As part of this process, students will be required to purchase international health insurance for the duration of their time abroad. Costs for this insurance are the responsibility of the student.
