Holy Week Pilgrimage in Rome

Campus Ministry offers an annual pilgrimage to Rome during Holy Week. This opportunity is available to any Notre Dame student concurrently studying abroad in Europe. Students are responsible for planning travel to Rome as well as hotel, food and personal expenses. There are two options for participation in the pilgrimage during Holy Week 2018.

Option 1:  Full-Track Pilgrimage 2018

The Full-Track Pilgrimage includes visits to many of Rome’s historically significant churches and religious sites, structured time for prayer and reflection and awe-inspiring Triduum liturgies in a variety of settings (and languages!) from Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday. The Full-Track Pilgrimage will be a wonderful way to spiritually enter into and reflect upon our Lord’s Passion and Resurrection.

The Full-Track Pilgrimage is limited to the first 40 students who register and does require participation in all events (with the understanding that travel to/from the pilgrimage will vary with each student). If you have a conflict with your arrival into or departure from Rome, please notify us ahead of time. Cost is $40 and can be paid online during registration. Easter Sunday Mass ticket, Thursday night dinner and a closing reception are included with registration.

Basic Schedule for the Full-Track Pilgrimage:

  • Holy Thursday, March 29:  Includes Liturgy of the Last Supper (gathering at 4 p.m.) at Santa Maria in Trastevere, dinner, and walking pilgrimage of Rome churches during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
  • Good Friday, March 30:  Visit to the Passion Relics at Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, Scala Sancta (“Holy Stairs”), St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and Good Friday liturgy at Trinità dei Monti.
  • Holy Saturday, March 31:  Morning prayer and tour at St. Peter’s Basilica, afternoon at St. Paul Outside the Walls, and Easter Vigil service.
  • Easter Sunday, April 1:  Mass with Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City at 10:15 am (ticket required; ticket for this mass is included with registration for the Full-Track Pilgrimage) and early-evening closing reception at the Rome Global Gateway.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Rome, lodging, and meals.
