All are welcome to celebrate the feast of Blessed Basil Moreau, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, on Friday, Jan. 20, at the 5:15 p.m. daily Mass in the Basilica. Born in Le Mans, France, on Feb. 11, 1799, Moreau founded the congregation in 1837. In his lifetime, Moreau not only developed the basic principles that characterize the Holy Cross education we know today, he also chose Fr. Edward Sorin, C.S.C., and a band of Holy Cross Brothers to establish the Congregation in the U.S. and found the University of Notre Dame. Blessed Basil Moreau died on Jan. 20, 1873.
