African American Retreats

Celebrating Gifts, Building Community
Exploring and sharing the unique gift of each individual and building community are pillars to the experience of African-American Student Retreats. Each retreat is a chance for African-American and mixed-race students to gather with their friends and celebrate their shared culture and explore how they can bring their gifts and experiences to the Notre Dame community.

African American and New Student Fall Retreat (Plunge Retreat)
This retreat is where First year students at Notre Dame gather to meet each other, talk with upper class leaders, share where they have come from, where they are headed and to have fun! The purpose of the retreat is to help connect incoming African American students with one another and introduce them to the social, spiritual and academic aspects of life under the Dome. Student leaders share their experiences through talks and there is time for small group discussions in a warm, welcoming environment. We are sure to make time for games, fun and fellowship so new friendships can begin.
Retreat Date: August 30 – 31, 2008
Days of Reflection
Once each semester, you are invited to take a day out of your hectic schedule and spend some quiet time in guided reflection. This is time for personal growth, meant to be used in whatever way best serves the student. Usually there is one Day of Reflection in the fall semester and one day set aside during Lent. There is also a special Day of Reflection for Seniors, as they are invited to contemplate the journey of the past several years and celebrate their success.
