Rev. Peter Rocca, C.S.C., is the Rector for the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame within the Office of Campus Ministry. Since 1980, Fr. Rocca has also served as the Director of Liturgy and Music at Moreau Seminary.

Originally from Chicago., Fr. Rocca attended the high school seminary for Holy Cross at Notre Dame from 1961 to 1965. He went on to become a novice at Sacred Heart Novitiate in Jordan, Minn., and then lived at the Moreau Seminary from 1966 to 1973 earning a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in Theology.

Fr. Rocca was ordained a Holy Cross priest on June 1, 1974 and served at St. Ignatius, Martyr, Parish in Austin, Texas until 1977. In 1980, he received master’s degrees in liturgical music and liturgical studies from The Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his responsibilities at Notre Dame and the Moreau Seminary, Fr. Rocca also serves as the General Editor of Paulist Press Ordo and the Director of Liturgy for the United States Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross. He also regularly prepares the annual liturgical calendar for the United States Bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship.

In the past, Fr. Rocca served as the Assistant Rector for Sacred Heart Church and for 12 years as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Notre Dame.

In his younger days, Fr. Rocca enjoyed playing racquet ball. Today, he continues to play golf and listen to music. He especially loves classical and country!
