Associate Director of Music and Choirs, Director of the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir and Basilica Schola
Dr. Andrew McShane is the Associate Director of Music and Choirs at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. In addition to serving as Associate Director of Music and Choirs, he is also the Director of the Notre Dame Basilica Schola and the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir.
Andrew became Director of Basilica music and director of the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir after the untimely passing of his close friend and colleague Gail Walton. Collaborating together, Andrew and Gail began the process of replacing the organ in the Basilica. Significant progress has been made in this ongoing effort, and the dream of a world class instrument in the Basilica will soon be realized.
Andrew earned a Bachelor of Music in Church Music at Wayne State University in Detroit, studying under Ray Ferguson. At the University of Notre Dame, he earned a Master of Music in Organ Performance and Literature as a student of Craig Cramer and Gail Walton. Andrew completed his education at the Northwestern University School of Music, earning a Doctor of Music in Organ and Church Music. In addition to his Basilica responsibilities, he also teaches in the Diocese of Ft. Wayne-South Bend Organist Training Program.
In his spare time Andrew enjoys gardening, decorating and model trains.
