Statement of Purpose
The Office of Campus Ministry of the University of Notre Dame in collaboration with The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, Catholic Campus Ministry Association, Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry, National Catholic Young Adult Ministry, National Religious Vocation Conference, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, will host a symposium May 23 –28, 2010 to address the catechetical, spiritual, and vocational needs of young people in the Church and society today.

Together we envision a gathering to welcome participants representing the wide range of institutions of higher learning throughout North America: Catholic campus ministers from colleges and universities, diocesan directors of young adult ministry, and religious vocation directors. We hope to engage participants in conversation about how to transmit to our students both the content of faith and a passion for lifelong, active participation in the life of the Church.

We anticipate coming together as a community that shares a common dedication to ministering to students and young adults. We will share prayer, conversation and fresh perspectives on topics such as liturgical prayer, personal prayer, promoting justice, and the role of discernment in the lives of young adults.

We also recognize that ministers need to be refreshed and renewed in their own mission at this time of the year. With this intent in mind, we will provide the freedom and opportunity for personal prayer and reflection, collegiality, and enjoyment of the recreational facilities, artistic offerings, and the natural beauty of our campus in May.

It is our desire that this gathering act as a spark to further collaboration between all engaged in this essential ministry and as a catalyst to enliven our desire to make Jesus Christ known, loved, and served by all to whom we minister.
