Intentions

Appropriate intercessions may be chosen from those given below, or other similar intentions may be composed. As a rule, at least one petition should be offered from each of the following categories:
a) for the Church
b) for the life and salvation of the world
c) for those weighed down by various needs
d) for the local community
e) for vocations to the priesthood

To each petition, those gathered should respond: “Lord, hear our prayer.”

For the Church

  1. For N., our Pope, N. our Bishop, and all ministers of Christ’s Church, that they may be strengthened by the Holy Spirit in their preaching the good news of salvation, let us pray to the Lord…
  2. For N., our bishop, that he may wisely lead this local Church in realizing the kingdom of God, let us pray to the Lord…
  3. For the Church of Jesus Christ, heirs in hope of eternal life; that we may forever be awake and alert as we await the day of the Lord, let us pray to the Lord…
  4. That all who are members of the Church may hold fast to the wisdom revealed by Christs, let us pray to the Lord…
  5. For all the leaders of prayer of Christ’s Church, that they may be worthy examples for others to imitate, let us pray to the Lord…
  6. For all who make up the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may always remain open to hearing the Word of God and have the strength to keep it, let us pray to the Lord…
  7. For all who make up the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be a true house of prayer, let us pray to the Lord…
  8. That each parish of our diocese may be a living sign of the presence of Christ in the world, let us pray to the Lord…
  9. For vocations to the priesthood, especially for our diocese, that there be sufficient priests to serve all our parishes and communities, let us pray to the Lord…
  10. For spouses, that the sacramental grace of Matrimony may be a source of strength in the practice of virtue and holiness of life, let us pray to the Lord…
  11. For vocations to religious life, that God may call forth from our communities individuals who are willing to commit themselves to religious life, let us pray to the Lord…

For the Life and Salvation of the World

  1. For our local, states, and national leaders of prayer, that their example may inspire young people to devote their lives to public service, let us pray to the Lord…
  2. For N., our bishop, that he may wisely lead this local Church in realizing the kingdom of God, let us pray to the Lord…
  3. That public officials may be blessed with the gifts of wisdom and understanding in serving the needs of their people, let us pray to the Lord…
  4. For peace throughout the world, that all leaders of prayer may be open to the hungers of their people for justice and reconciliation, let us pray to the Lord…
  5. That public policy may reflect Christian values and avoid oppression of the weak, let us pray to the Lord…
  6. For peace, justice and hope in our world, let us pray to the Lord…
  7. For vocations to the priesthood, especially for our diocese, that there be sufficient priests to serve all our parishes and communities, let us pray to the Lord…

For Those Weighed Down by Various Needs

  1. For those who live in war-torn lands, that they may witness the cessation of violence and true reconciliation in their lands, let us pray to the Lord…
  2. For N., our bishop, that he may wisely lead this local Church in realizing the kingdom of God, let us pray to the Lord…
  3. That those who suffer in any way may experience the love and concern of Christ through the generosity of Christ’s disciples, let us pray to the Lord…
  4. That those who live in darkness and are shunned as outcasts in today’s world may receive assistance in their needs and affirmation of their human dignity, let us pray to the Lord…
  5. That the Gospel of peace and justice may prevail in the hearts of all who resort to violence, let us pray to the Lord…
  6. For all men and women who risk loneliness, rejection, and even persecution in their efforts to spread peace and understanding in our world, let us pray to the Lord…
  7. For all who live in poverty and hunger, and other conditions which are degrading to their human dignity, let us pray to the Lord…
