Emmaus Links and Resources

U.S. Bishops site:

Provides information about the Bible, Sunday readings, letters and information from the bishops’ conference, movie reviews and links to other sites (everything from the Vatican to local diocesan websites).
This page gets you directly to the daily and Sunday readings in the translation used at Mass.

Faithful citizenship: http://faithfulcitizenship.org/

This page contains a link to a .pdf of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, the bishops’ document which helps voters make informed, faith-filled choices when they exercise their right to vote. Though this year’s election has come and gone, you can still use the site to download Forming Consciences or to get to their 11-week small-group study on current issues and Catholic social teaching: public policy, right to life, poverty, the dignity of work, solidarity and stewardship, among others. The study combines sections from Forming Consciences with scripture and excerpts from the Catechism, the documents of Vatican II and other resources.

Busted Halo: http://bustedhalo.com/

They describe themselves as “an online magazine for spiritual seekers in their 20’s and 30’s.” Some materials might be a little “old” for undergrads, especially first-year students (such as the column that addresses questions about marriage), but overall, the site has lots of information in a format that would be appealing to students.

Liturgy Links: http://www.cin.org/

Just what it sounds like: links to almost any topic that has to do with the Mass or other forms of liturgical prayer that you can think of. It’s a bit boring, visually, but you can scroll through quickly, find what you’re looking for (or just pick something that looks interesting if you’re looking for a topic) and click to link to it.

Vox Nova: http://vox-nova.com/

Excellent, well-balanced site with a range of opinions on politics, society, cultural and legal issues.

Ignatius Insight: http://ignatiusinsight.com/

The site comes from the Ignatius Press publishing house, and part of its purpose is to promote the authors and books of Ignatius Press, but it is still a well-balanced and trustworthy site geared towards, as they say: “readers who wish to learn more about the Catholic Church and her teachings, beliefs, practices, and history.”

Catholic News Service: http://www.catholicnews.com/

Think Associated Press for Catholic news. This site posts all the articles written by CNS authors, committed to spreading the Gospel through informing Catholics about the involvement of the Church in the world today. It has a global, not just a U.S., focus.

Center for Liturgy Sunday Website: http://liturgy.slu.edu/

Very insightful website (recommended by Emmaus members!) dedicated to helping students prepare for Mass on Sunday through prayer, reflection questions, short essays by well-respected spiritual authors and background information and context for the Sunday readings. Includes reflections from St. Louis University students.
