Emmaus

Not Just on Sundays: Faith Sharing and Scripture Reflection
Have you ever wanted to think or talk about the Sunday readings beyond the moments when you hear them at Mass? Have you ever wondered how your belief in God can help you make sense of the questions and decisions you encounter on a daily basis? Walk the road to Emmaus, just as the disciples did, and discover, as the disciples did, that Jesus Christ is walking with you even when you don’t necessarily recognize his presence. Inspired by the story of the travelers on the road to Emmaus in Luke’s Gospel (see Luke 24:13-35), Campus Ministry began the Emmaus program over a decade ago to offer Notre Dame students the opportunity to participate in the kind of small Christian communities that have existed in the Church throughout the world since its earliest days.
Emmaus groups are small, peer-led faith-sharing communities in which you can reflect on the upcoming Sunday Scriptures, discuss the connections between your faith and the many other aspects of your life, and pray together.

Most groups meet on a weekly basis for about 90 minutes, and all groups are facilitated by student leaders. You can start a new group with friends or join an existing group in your dorm or around campus.
As a part of an Emmaus community, you will meet others who are curious about exploring Scripture more deeply and optimistic about the possibility of integrating their faith more fully into their lives. You will find long-time friendships growing stronger and meet new friends you might otherwise never have known.
Link to the Emmaus materials page to find information about the meeting format, helps for leaders, other interesting websites, and of course, everything you’ll need to prepare for your weekly meetings. We suggest that you start with the Lectionary format, which guides your discussion through using the readings for the upcoming Sunday Mass. Other topical discussion guides are available on the page and these resources are growing regularly.
