Not Just on Sundays: Faith Sharing and Scripture Reflection

Many students within the Notre Dame community have expressed the need for a place where young women and men can come together to share their journey of faith and to read and reflect on Scripture. In response to this need, Campus Ministry offers Emmaus, a program inspired by the story of the travelers on the road to Emmaus in Luke’s Gospel.

Emmaus groups are small, faith sharing groups where you join in prayer, reflect on the upcoming Sunday Scriptures, and share personal experience of a life in faith.

Most groups meet on a weekly basis for about 90 minutes, and all groups are facilitated by student leaders. You can start a new group with friends or join an existed group in your dorm or around campus.

By joining one of these faith sharing groups, you will come to know the same joy and hope that the original travelers to Emmaus experienced through meeting Jesus. You will have the opportunity to share faith and friendship with others who seek to understand the stirrings of the heart and the will of our God, as well as reflect deeply on Sacred Scripture and its meaning for us as disciples in Christ. In an intimate and trusting environment, you will have the opportunity to mature in faith and to address many important and difficult questions.

Most groups choose a lectionary-based format. These materials reflect on the scripture readings for the upcoming Sunday with discussion of their meaning and implications for us today. Materials will also be provided for those who would like to focus on a particular topic such as relationships, social justice, and Theology as the Body.
